What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 is the disease caused by a virus strain that began spreading in people in December 2019. Health experts are concerned because little is known about this new respiratory virus, and it can cause severe illness and pneumonia in some people.
- The COVID-19 virus was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China
- The COVID-19 virus is not the same as the coronaviruses that commonly circulate among humans and cause mild illness, like the common cold
- Formerly, this disease was referred to as “2019 Novel Coronavirus” or “2019-nCoV”

www.coronavirus.gov – The White House, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have collaborated to create this website.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – The CDC is providing information on how the agency is responding to the novel coronavirus outbreak. This includes FAQs, prevention and treatment, how testing is being conducted, updates on cases in the United States and throughout the world, and more. Additional resources from the CDC include information for specific organizations, such as schools, medical professionals, businesses and travelers.
World Health Organization (WHO) – The WHO, a United Nations agency dedicated to world public health, has published FAQs on how the virus is spread, symptoms, prevention methods, information regarding treatment, and more.
National Library of Medicine – The National Library of Medicine is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. As the largest biomedical library in the world, the National Library of Medicine can provide access to clinical studies, public health literature, and scholarly work about the virus.
MedlinePlus – As part of the National Library of Medicine, MedlinePlus is an online health resource that provides easily accessible consumer health information in English and Spanish.

• Wisconsin Emergency Rental Assistance (WERA) pre-screen application serves Door, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan county renters who have been affected by COVID.
• Wisconsin Emergency Mortgage and Water/Utility pre-screen application serves Door, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan county home owners who have been affected by COVID. Renters who are behind on water bills may also apply for this program for WATER assistance ONLY. Should they need rental or utility assistance and have been affected by COVID please apply to the WERA program as well.
