City of Sheboygan Announces Re-opening of City Facilities to the Public

May 20, 2020 by Mayor's Office

For Immediate Release: May 20, 2020
Contact: Darrell Hofland, City Administrator
920-459-3315, darrell.hofland@sheboyganwi.gov

Effective Tuesday, May 26, 2020, the City of Sheboygan will re-open many city facilities to the public. An exception is the Senior Activity Center for which a re-opening date has not been set.

According to Darrell Hofland, City Administrator, “With the re-opening of city facilities, we ask Sheboygan residents and businesses to remain vigilant in following safety guidelines including social distancing.”

The city facilities which will open to the public on May 26 include City Hall, the Municipal Services Building, and Mead Public Library. City staff will continue to practice social distancing by keeping 6 feet or more of separation between themselves and customers, and between co-workers.

Residents and businesses are urged to continue to use drop boxes, city websites, virtual meetings, email, and phone calls as the preferred methods of contact.

City Hall

All City Hall departments will open their customer service counters effective May 26. Temporary plexiglas barriers are installed for the protection of city staff and the public.

Please contact departments directly to learn about options to conduct business over the phone or by email. A department directory is available at www.sheboyganwi.gov/directory. The city’s general phone number is 920-459-4000.

City of Sheboygan/Village of Kohler Municipal Court

The City of Sheboygan/Village of Kohler Municipal Court will have virtual court appearances and pretrial phone calls through June. Call 920-459-0212 or email municipalcourtdept@sheboyganwi.gov with questions or concerns.

Fire and Police Departments

All non-emergency public visits should be conducted by appointment only. Please call the non-emergency business phone numbers for scheduling.

Shoreline Metro and Metro Connection Services

Shoreline Metro and Metro Connection will continue to restrict the maximum number of passengers to 10 for buses and 3 for vans. Please visit shorelinemetro.com for updated information on possible service changes.

Route 40 Trolley will not commence summer service until July. An announcement of the trolley service will be issued in June.

Harbor Centre Marina

The Harbor Centre Marina and The Landing marina store are now open. A new lakeview bar is being renovated and is planned to be open to the public by the end of June. More info at harborcentremarina.com.

Mead Public Library

Mead Public Library will reopen May 26 with limited services. The third floor will remain closed. Curbside book pick-up will continue to be available. Please visit www.meadpl.org and their Facebook page for more information.

Park Facilities and Park Restrooms

The City of Sheboygan Parks Division is not accepting reservation requests for shelter and building rentals until June 30; this date is consistent with the Sheboygan County Safe Restart phased approach.

The following will be open:

  • City park tennis courts and pickleball
  • City park restrooms will have phased re-opening starting May 26
  • City park trails
  • City beaches
  • City dog parks
  • City disc golf
  • City fish cleaning stations
  • City boat and kayak launches

The following will be closed until June 30 and re-evaluated based on the Sheboygan County Safe Restart Guidelines:

  • City park playgrounds will remain closed
  • City park buildings and shelters will remain closed

This information is current as of the release date and time and remains subject to change. For the most current information, please visit sheboygandpw.com.

Payments

In addition to mailing payments by check, options include online payments or use of the drop boxes located on N. 9th Street adjacent to City Hall and at the Police Department.

Public Meetings

Most of Sheboygan public meetings will be held in the City Hall Council Chamber. The city is encouraging the general public to consider foregoing in-person attendance in favor of viewing the live meeting on Charter Spectrum channel 990, AT&T U-Verse channel 99, or www.wscssheboygan.com/vod. Recorded meetings are available on youtube.com/user/WSCSSheboygan. Meeting schedules can be found on www.sheboyganwi.gov.
