The Harbor Centre Business Improvement District (BID) announced it will reallocate $90,000 from its 2020 budget to support BID businesses impacted by closures related to COVID-19. Eligible business can now apply for grants ranging up to $5,000 to support any operational costs.
“The BID board of directors is taking action to support our struggling local businesses during this economic hardship,” said Paul Rudnick, Owner of Rudnick Jewelers and BID President. “We need these businesses to survive if we want a thriving Harbor Center, Riverfront and Downtown business economy in the future.”
Businesses must meet the following criteria to apply:
- Current BID member (VIEW MAP)
- Physical location is or was closed due to COVID-19 (excluding curb-side operations)
- Identify as retail, nonprofit, restaurant, or wellness business
The full application and guidelines are now available at harborcentre.com/grants. All applications and supporting documentation must be submitted by Friday, May 22, 2020 at 5:00 pm CST. Grantees will be notified and funded in late May / early June.
About the Harbor Centre Business Improvement District: The Harbor Centre Business Improvement District (BID) exists to provide resources to maintain and enhance the business environment for its members using funds from property assessment within the defined Business Improvement District. Each year, the BID supports community events like the Sheboygan Music Series, Riverfest, the Night Market and Pop-up shops. In addition, the BID plans to announce its new grant-making program to support member-driven events and activities, and invest in enhancement projects like public art, placemaking, signage and more in 2021 and beyond.
Small Business Emergency Assistance Funding
For businesses in the City of Sheboygan that are outside of the BID area, the City’s Community Development Block Grant-CV is available. The Emergency Assistance Fund targets Sheboygan businesses with five (5) or fewer employees as defined by HUD’s microenterprise definition, and addresses disparities in minority lending and business ownership in Sheboygan.
