Due to a recent retirement announcement, the City of Sheboygan is currently seeking an experienced leader for the position of Finance Director.
Under the direction of the City Administrator, this position is responsible for governance of municipal fiscal planning and controls by providing financial statements, analytical reports, cost studies, budgetary controls, and related managerial information, including investing city funds and other related activities. The successful candidate must have a thorough knowledge of accounting and administrative principles, along with advanced knowledge of federal, state, and municipal laws relating to the financial operations of a municipality.
- The Finance Director will be an integral part of the executive leadership team, participating in key decisions regarding economic development, capital planning and development, long-term and short-term revenue and expenditure strategies, budget development and administration, and all policies affecting the overall fiscal health of the city. In addition, the director must maintain a forward-looking perspective, constantly scanning the horizon in efforts to anticipate future problems and work towards developing solutions through creative and innovative process improvements.
- The Finance Director is an important communicator, able to discuss complex financial concepts and strategies in a manner that can be readily understood by individuals with or without municipal finance backgrounds. In addition, the director will lead a professional team and will encourage staff growth and succession through professional development and coaching.
Advanced education, including a Bachelor’s Degree, from an accredited college in the areas of Public Administration, Financial Management, or the like is required. A Master’s Degree is preferred, as well as an advanced certification such as a Certified Public Accountant. Ten years of previous experience is recommended, with a minimum of five years in a leadership role, preferably in a municipal environment.
Wage rate is $94,057–$127,254 annually, depending on qualifications. Excellent working conditions with a competitive wage and generous fringe benefits package.

SEASONAL FORESTRY TEMPORARY HELP
The City of Sheboygan is accepting applications for a forestry seasonal worker in the Parks Division of the Public Works Department. Duties include assisting forestry crew with planting, watering, and removal operations. Assist with chemical injections ash trees for management of the emerald ash borer. Learn and perform tasks using hand saws, pruners, pull saw and chainsaws. Requires current enrollment in a two or four-year college-level urban forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, or closely related program at an accredited college or university. Must have good physical stamina, be able to work out of doors in varying climatic conditions, be at least 18 years of age, and have a valid driver’s license. The normal hours of work are 7:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday and occasional Saturdays or Sundays. SEASONAL TEMPORARY HELP GENERAL LABOR/MAINTENANCE
The City of Sheboygan is accepting applications for seasonal temporary help in the Public Works Department. Duties include lawn care, garbage collection, and general grounds maintenance. Must have good physical stamina, be able to work out of doors in varying climatic conditions, be at least 18 years of age. The normal hours of work are 7:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday and occasional Saturdays or Sundays. Minimum rate of pay is $9.25 per hour and increases with skill level.
